Welcome back to Reni's Cafe! Today I caught up with Mike The Mover and asked him to discuss his dream. I was interested in where he saw the company going. Walking away rather quickly, he said he would email be something. Not what I expected, but this is what he sent: " MLK had his dream... This is mine... I see a world where it makes no difference whether you're from the poorest barrio of Los Angeles or the largest penthouse of Manhattan; the rolling cornfields of Iowa or the bustling streets of Chicago. It doesn't matter if you grew up watching polo matches on the manicured lawns of Palm Beach or hauling lobster pots from the chilly waters of Maine. You may be a soldier in Seattle or a trucker in Texas; a coal miner in Kentucky or a scientist in San Diego. These things don't matter in the America of my Dream. I'll tell you what else doesn't matter: Where your parents were born, the color of your skin, what God you worship or don't, what gender you are, or what sexual preference you hold. The size of your bank account and the make of your car hold no sway. FMCSA Releases New Final Rule

The long wait is over! On December 22^nd the U.S. Department of Transportation released a final rule that revises the interstate hours-of-service regulations. The new rule contains five substantive changes that are of consequence to our readers. The mandatory compliance dates are February 27, 2012 for some of the provisions and July 1, 2013 for the others. Carriers and drivers may voluntarily comply with the new rule now (it was published in the Federal Register on December 27, 2011) and in some cases it may be beneficial to do so.

What Did Not Change?

v The maximum driving time remains at 11 hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty

v The 14 consecutive hour window remains unchanged

v The 60 hours in 7 days and 70 hours in 8 days rules remain

v The 34 hour restart provision remains…with newly imposed limitations

What Did Change?

Rest Breaks – Although the 11 hour driving rule was retained, the new rule does not permit a driver to drive 11 hours straight. The new rule adds the following language to 49CFR 395.1, “After June 30, 2013, however, driving is permitted only if 8 hours or fewer have passed since the end of the driver’s last off-duty break or sleeper-berth period of at least 30 minutes”. So there’s the first major change. A required 30 minute break somewhere between the 3^rd and the 8^th hour after coming on-duty and then a driver may drive the remainder of their 11 hours.

Limitations on 34 Hour Restarts – The 34 hour restart provision (to reset a driver’s 60 hours in 7 days or 70 hours in 8 days) remains unchanged through June 30, 2013. Beginning July 1, 2013 the following limitations are added.

v The minimum 34 hours off-duty must include two periods between 1 AM and 5 AM

v The 34 hour restart may only be used once per week (168 consecutive hours from the beginning of the previous restart)

Definition of On-Duty Time – The current hours-of-service rule requires that all time spent in or upon a commercial motor vehicle be recorded as on-duty. The new rule excludes two specific activities from that definition.

v Time spent resting in or on a parked vehicle

v Up to 2 hours riding in the passenger seat of a property-carrying vehicle moving on the highway immediately before or after a period of at least 8 consecutive hours in the sleeper berth

The first of these changes (time spent resting in or on a parked vehicle) means that a driver may spend off-duty time in the truck (sometimes the most comfortable place to be) without being confined to the sleeper berth. The second change (up to 2 hours riding in the passenger seat) allows a team driver to climb out of the sleeper after 8 hours and still remain off-duty for an additional 2 hours.

Penalties – The new rule amends Part 386 by defining an Egregious Violation of Driving Time Limits and allowing for the imposition of maximum penalties for those violations. A driver who exceeds and a motor carrier that requires or permits a driver to exceed the driving time limits by more than 3 hours are deemed to have committed an egregious violation. The maximum penalties are $2,750 for each offense for a driver and $11,000 for each offense for a motor carrier. The compliance date is February 27, 2012.

Oilfield Exemption – The current regulations state that specially trained drivers of commercial motor vehicles which are specially constructed to service oil wells need not include waiting time at natural gas or oil well sites as on-duty time and that all such time shall be accounted for in records maintained by the motor carrier. The new rule requires that “Waiting Time” be shown on the driver’s log (or electronic equivalent) as off-duty and identified by annotations in “Remarks” or a separate line added to the grid. The compliance date is February 27, 2012.

The Bottom Line

The hours-of-service regulations have been challenged in federal district court three times since 2003. Safety advocacy groups, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, trucking associations, motor carriers and individual drivers have all objected to the rule for their own reasons.

We, at Right Lane Consulting, understand your frustration with the constantly changing regulations. We can’t know, with any degree of certainty, what the future will bring. We do know that commercial vehicle/driver inspections are still being performed and carrier and driver safety data is being collected on a daily basis. Staying current on regulatory changes may require a bit more time and effort right now but it’s the best way to protect your bottom line.

Welcome back to Reni's Cafe! Food Fight... Today we would like to send out a special thanks to Area Manager of Cane's Chicken and his wife Jason & Elizbeth Zwerin, and everyone at Micatrotto Restaurant Group. After we relocated them from Las Vegas to Phoenix, Jason & Elizbeth supplied us with enough food to feed our small army. The food was GREAT!!!... The sauce was the boss, the toast was the most, and the chicken was kicken... Thanks for everything. (the fight was over who got the last piece of chicken)

In other news, D-Mac has been working hard to round up food for the Stray Cats MC 3rd annual Food drive benefitting Three Square Food Bank. Three Square is Southern Nevada’s only food bank providing food assistance to the residents of Lincoln, Nye, Esmeralda and Clark Counties. If you would like to help, they are located at 4190 N. Pecos Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89115. Moving on to Clark High School and McCarthy Construction. With the successful move-in on phase II and the successful move-out on phase III, construction is again underway at the school. ICM management would like to extend a big thanks to all the guys that helped make this project a success... completed on time and without incident. Thanks for all the hard work. Phase III/IV should begin over spring break and this summer.

Welcome back to Reni's Cafe! It is time again for us to close out the old year and open a new one... Good bye 2011... Hello 2012!!! One of my biggest trills is getting to post the employee of the year award before anyone knows who got it. So, can I get a drum roll please.... In every company there is one employee that visibly sticks out head and shoulders above the rest, and our company is no different. This is the employee that shows up on his days off, stays late to complete projects, and goes way out of his way to deliver the best customer service possible. He even volunteers to work holidays. A BIG congratulations to Mr. Daniel Leggett for this achievement! Daniel is a full time employee and full time college student who learns quickly and excels at everything he dose. From all of management, we would like to send out a special thank you for all your dedication and hard work. We are very proud to employ employees of your caliber, and hope to have another great year with you.

Rounding up 2011

Welcome back to Reni's Cafe. As we are rounding up 2011 and getting ready for 2012 there is allot to be done. Mike The Mover and Howard have been very busy getting "the books" done. Apparently allot of new data will be tracked in 2012. Cowboy and Shaggy have been working hard on the trucks and doing their part with the Christmas Toy Drive, and Thanksgiving at Aunt Carol's with all the trimmings was the best. The next big job is for HR to nominate 2 employees per location to find the employee of the year. I bet going through every employee file can be a task. I can't wait to see who wins it! With Christmas just weeks away, the moving industry is starting to slow down, but it is good to see everyone in the seasonal cheer... Hope you too are having a safe and warm holiday season.

Halloween in Vegas

Roaming the Strip and Fremont for Halloween is like being at the world's largest adult costume party. This year I went with D-Mac and dressed as a biker, which wasn't hard to do seeing we always look like that. Taking pictures of all the best customs, dancing to the many live bands, and drinking just a little too much was all part of the fun. We saw god walking with the devil, a transformer dancing, a group of smurfs, and many things that we just didn't understand (like a man wearing a cardboard box for pants, no shirt, and a diaper on his head). Every where we went was different, and every place had contest for the best outfit. In total I think I took about 600 pictures filling my memory card. After carefully reviewing them, J-Lo insisted that this was the best costume. All of the top picks will be posted on Facebook is you can pick your best.

Getting Organized

Start early- Almost everyone has more stuff than they think they do, and almost no one leaves enough time to pack it.

Room Lists- Start by forming two room lists, one for your current place and one for your future place. This will help you manage what has to go where.

Room Inventory- Go to each room and write down the types of things that need to be packed: furniture items, length of shelving, closets, etc.

Time Allotment- Make sure to leave enough time. The most common timeframe reported by people moving is that it takes a month to pack. One study reported that it takes 4-5 hours to pack an average dorm room, so that should give you an idea of what’s involved.

Calendar- Pull out a calendar and plan by day when each room will be completed.

Delegation- If you’re moving with family members, agree with them exactly while tasks they will be doing and the date they will be finished.

Track your progress- at least once per week track where you are against the date on the calendar. Revise your plan if you’re falling behind.

Finding Great Movers

Only hire the best- If you choose to hire professional movers, do your research and hire good ones. Poor quality movers really can be worse than none at all.

Referrals- Get referrals from local real estate agents and friends who have moved recently.

Licensing- Only consider movers that are licensed, bonded and insured.

Research- Investigate your potential movers through the U.S. Department of Transportation, MovingScam-dot-com and the Better Business Bureau.

In-home estimates- Evaluate a minimum of 3 movers based on in-home estimates of goods to be moved.

Price- Price isn't the only factor- extremely low bids indicate a desperate mover.

"Binding Not-To-Exceed"- Ask for a written "Binding Price", estimates always change but a binding price does not.

Avoid "rogue movers"- if you feel uncomfortable, trust your instincts! Never agree to move your possessions with anyone you don’t trust.

General Packing Tips

Pack a suitcase- For each member of the family moving, pack a suitcase as if you’re all going on a 3-day vacation, including changes of clothes, medications, eyeglasses, toiletries, etc. Keep the suitcases separated from all the other items to be moved, such as in your car, at your new workplace, etc. so you’ll have everything you need for the first few days without searching through boxes.

Create “Open Me First” boxes- Pick one or two boxes per room as "Open Me First" boxes. Put in them the things you'll need first at your new location. Then mark the sides of the boxes so you'll know which ones are which.

One at a time- Wherever possible, work on packing just one room at a time (instead of several all at once) to keep things focused and organized.

Less is more- Use packing as a way to clean out belongings for donations, a yard sale, and/or the recycling center. Aim to eliminate 1/3 of your belongings. You'll save time and expense.

Off the floor- Instead of the floor, use a completely cleared-off table top or counter in each room for packing boxes. You'll find you get much more accomplished.

Tracking small parts- When taking apart items to be moved, such as tables, securely tape screws and other small parts securely to the underside of the item. You'll always know where to look and save time putting things back together.

Save space- Use towels, pillows and t-shirts you’re packing as extra padding around fragile items. It will save room in your boxes.

Criss-cross tape- Tape boxes along the seams where the flaps meet together. Then tape perpendicularly at the center of the first tape, forming a cross.

Stacking- Stack boxes with the heaviest on the bottom, lightest on top to prevent crushing.

The 30-pound rule- Keep each box below 50 pounds absolute maximum and below 30 pounds wherever possible. Heavier boxes lead to injuries, are much more likely to burst their tape or seams and tend to get dropped.

Scale- Keep a bathroom scale in the room you're packing so you can keep the boxes below the weight limits.

Packing Electronics

A picture is worth 1000 words- Use a digital or cell phone camera to take pictures of how complicated wiring (computer cords, speaker wires) is hooked up. Be sure to use plenty of light and careful focus so the pictures will be clear. Print each picture and put it in the top of the box holding the item. This will make hooking up the items in your new place much easier.

Original is best- Always use the original packaging when available. (I realize that most of us don’t have the original packaging for much of anything, but I thought I would bring it up anyway).

Double boxing- For especially fragile electronics, pack them first in a box with an excessive amount of biodegradable packing peanuts. Then pack that box in a larger box filled with biodegradable packing peanuts. This two-box system seems like a pain but seems to do a better job isolating items from jarring impacts.

No loose ends- Wrap each cord carefully with cable organizers, heavy twist ties or heavy rubber bands. Never throw unwrapped cords into boxes- they get tangled and caught on other items.

Cord labels- Consider getting a label maker and labeling the end of each. Then you'll know exactly which cord you're seeing and where each end connects when you put things back together.

The two-inch rule- Use at least 2" of biodegradable packing peanuts around each side of fragile items.

Box Inventory and Labeling

“Fat” is in- Use the thickest, darkest marker you can find for labeling boxes. Pencils, pens, tin or light markers are almost impossible to see even just a few feet away.

Two sides- Label each box on the two broadest sides, opposite one another. That way if a box gets turned, you can still identify its contents.

Abbreviate room names- Start box labels with the abbreviated name of the room followed by a box number, such as “BTH2-6” for "second bathroom, 6th box." You can then track each box to make sure everything arrived safely.

Label "Open Me First" on boxes where it applies.

Mark "Fragile" where appropriate.

Identify contents- Identify the major contents and where they came from, such as "Medicine Cabinet" or "Linen Closet- Towels and Wash Cloths."

Box Inventory- Keep a clipboard and write down each box's room, box number and contents (graph paper is great for keeping things recorded neatly).

Verifying delivery- When unloading, check off each box as it gets unloaded at your new place. Then you'll know everything arrived safely.

Labels out- Ask movers to stack boxes in your new place with the labels facing out so that you can easily spot a specific box.

Letting People Know

Post Office- File your change of address with the Post Office at least 30 days prior to the date of the move.

Referrals- Ask everyone you notify for a referral in your new area.

Records- Get copies of your existing records (transcripts from schools, medical records from doctors, etc.) while you’re notifying the changes of address.

Moving With Kids

Get a children's book on moving for smaller kids. Consider “The Berenstain Bears’ Moving Day.”
If appropriate, let children pick their room.
If possible, let kids pick a decoration (poster, light switch, name banner, etc.) for their new room.
Pack a kid's sized suitcase and let each child pick out a special toy to keep with them and a special outfit to wear on "new home day."
If the child has a special dish or cup, include it in the kitchen "Open Me First" box so familiar items await them at their new place.
Consider unpacking the kids' rooms first, or at least their "Open Me First" boxes to help them settle in.

Moving Day

Again, start early- You want to have everything as organized as possible prior to the arrival of the movers.
Use sitters- Recruit help in watching your small kids and pets on Moving Day. Your attention will be needed for the nuts and bolts of the move.
Have food ready- Whether you have professional movers or friends and family, having coffee, orange juice, and bagels or donuts available will make it easier for everyone to get started.
Cell phone numbers- Make sure you have the cell phone number of the driver of the truck entered into your cell phone, and that the driver has yours in case you get separated or have a problem.
Proper payment- Almost all professional movers will demand payment in full and in cash before they will unpack a single box. Make sure you have payment ready.
Directions- Have directions and a map ready for anyone will be driving between your old place and your new place.

Unpacking

Unpacking Plan- Just like with packing, have a plan for unpacking. Otherwise you're likely to end up frustrated with a sea of half-opened boxes with your necessities still "missing in action."
Prioritize Rooms- Focus on "Open Me First" boxes in the bathrooms and kitchen first.
Trash and Recyclable Boxes- Keep at least one trash bag (for the real trash) and one large emptied box (to hold used packing paper and biodegradable "peanuts") available in each room BEFORE you start the heavy unpacking.
Time Limits- Set an objective of unpacking a certain number of boxes each day until all the boxes are all unpacked.

Great Packing Tips

The undertaking of packing all your treasured memorabilia and necessities can be made easier by following these few simple techniques:

Use the proper packing materials. It will payoff in the long run! Sturdy boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, and moving pads can all be purchased from your local mover. Wardrobe boxes and other specialty boxes can be found there too. Sturdy boxes can also be retrieved from wholesale companies at no charge.

The following is a list of tools and materials to make your packing go more smoothly:

v Razor knife and/or Scissors

v Note pad

v Black & Red, water resistant marker

v Boxes of all sizes

v Packing tape

v Bubble wrap

Note Pad - Keep a detailed list (by box number) of what items are packed in each box. Do not write the contents of each box on the box.

Packing Boxes - Pack one room at a time labeling each box appropriately (on top and side) with which room the box belongs in (bedroom, kitchen, living room, etc) and assign each box a number (1, 2, 3…) in black. Also label boxes containing breakable or sentimental items with “Fragile” or “glass” in red. In the note pad, keep a detailed list of what items are packed in each box to make finding things and unpacking easier. Do not write the contents of each box on the box.

In The Bedroom - Empty all dresser and night stand drawers of all contents. Fold and place the clothes into a small bags (grocery bags will work), Tie the bags shut, and place them back in the drawers. This minimizes wasted space without adding much weight to an already heavy item. Box up all other items (ink pens, batteries, and other items). To keep from unnecessary damage, it’s a good idea to put all furniture knobs, feet, screws, etc. in a labeled zip tight bag or container that you can keep with you so the parts won't get lost.

In The Kitchen – Go to the linen closet and gather up all the bath & hand towels and bring them to the kitchen. Build a medium box and put a pillow or thick blanket in the box (on the bottom). Wrap all your china and glassware in towels and place them in the box (on top of the pillow or thick blanket). The bath towels will protect your glassware better then paper. Put socks inside drinking glasses and wrap them in hand towels. The socks will take the vibration out of the glass. Wrap all glass items throughout the house like this and your glassware will be better protected then paper wrap or bubble wrap.

One Special Box - Plan ahead for what you'll need the first day after your move. Pack a special box for everyone containing toiletries, medications, a change of clothes, toys for the kids, etc. Do the same in the kitchen… a family of three should have a special kitchen box containing 3 plates, 3 bowls, 3 forks, 3 spoons… Cooking knife, favorite frying pan… everything you need for the 1^st day at your new home. This will save you time from having to unpack your entire kitchen just to cook a simple lunch or dinner.

Pack Tight - Make sure all boxes are firmly packed with heavier items on bottom and lighter ones on top. Put heavier items in smaller boxes so that they're easier to carry. The tighter you pack your boxes, the less damage there will be. Wrap all items individually and always place a layer of cushion in the bottom of each box. Pillows and blankets work well for this. Fill empty spaces with t-shirts or other material items. Do not leave boxes partly packed! They crush and it they have other boxes stacked on top of them, the whole pile will fall, breaking fragile items. If you'll be putting boxes in storage, make sure to pack according to the seasons during which your things will be in storage and mark the boxes accordingly.

Larger Glass Items – It is always best to leave large glass items such as pictures, TVs, mirrors, glass table tops, and glass faced furniture to be crated and packed by professional movers, even if there is an additional cost. If you decide to crate these items yourself, you should consult a professional mover for advice on how to pack the different glassed items.

Loading The Truck – Loading the truck is like building a 3-D jigsaw puzzle and should be left to the pros. If you decide to do it yourself, start with the heavier items and use them as a base. Stack heavier boxes on bottom and lighter boxes on top. On the top of the stack, slide in picture & mirror boxes, or whatever you have that is thin… You want to use all available space to reduce the risk of breakage. When the truck is completely loaded, secure the load with ratchet straps.

Do Not – Do not pack flammable goods or heat sensitive items like propane tanks, aerosol cans, gas cans, oil based paints, candles, and certain cleaning fluids. It is against federal law for your shipper to ship them. Do not pack items in trash bags. Everything should be boxed. Bags rip open easily, and the contents fall out and go everywhere.

Heavy Items - A book does not weigh much, but fill a large box with books and suddenly it weighs a ton. Books, magazines, and DVDs belong in a small box. Boxes should not weigh more then 35 lbs. If you can't pick the box up, it weighs too much... try repacking it into several smaller boxes.

Welcome back to Reni's Cafe. There has been allot of buzz in the office over a very special - very large bid. Like always, no one will tell me what's going on until after the fact. Here's what happened.... The City of North Las Vegas is finishing the construction of their new building. After doing their research, they only invited 6 companies to put in a bid for the move (ICM was one of the six). All bids had to be turned in by 2pm last Monday (which was where all the excitement was coming from). It's going to be a few weeks before a decision is made on what company gets the contract, so cross your fingers and say a prayer that we get it as it will mean lots of hours for all the current guys, and several new openings for the unemployed. Its a great feeling when you can put people to work, feed their families, and take the stress of jobless away from them. We would also like to thank all the staff at LasVegas 8 News Now. We are the only moving company listed on their businessdirectory, and it means allot to us.

ksl.com - 3 arrested in alleged moving scam

EAGLE MOUNTAIN UTAH-- Three men were arrested Monday for posing as movers in order to get money from a woman who was preparing to move across the country.

Julie McNair needed her furniture moved from Eagle Mountain UT to South Carolina. She used a moving broker website to get bids from five companies. The cheapest came back from what she thought was the national moving company Atlas Moving Lines for around $1,800.
On Monday the movers started loading her belongings into the van. But Julie said she had a funny feeling -- which was confirmed when the movers said her things weighed more than they'd originally thought so they were raising the price to $5,100.
In addition, their truck appeared to have an Atlas Van Lines decal recently placed on it, though the men were wearing shirts with the Atlas Van Lines logo and website on them.

Julie's mother called Atlas -- the real Atlas. The company said the movers were not associated with them, and it has been trying to stop this scam for months. Atlas's attorney Todd Suter says the scam has been going on all over the country, especially in the west, for as long as six months.

"I'm sure it's connected to a larger organized crime connection," said Lt. Darren Gilbert of the Utah County Sheriff's Office.
Julie confronted the fake movers.
Julie said, "When I sat him down I just said, 'You know and I know you're a liar and this is not the actual Atlas Van Lines and I'm not signing anything.'"
Julie went outside to get a license plate number off the truck, only to discover it didn't have plates. So she stood in front of the truck.
"He said, ‘OK, fine, we don't have time for this today so I'll unload it and I'll only charge you $400 for the packing material in cash and you don't call the police,'" Julie said.
But she already had called them. When officers arrived they arrested the men -- after they unloaded her belongings.
Court records show the three men told police they worked for a man named George. When investigators contacted him, he said his company is called Atlas Van Lines but is separate from the nationally-known moving company.
"The website matched up, all their names and all the invoices they were sending and the quotes they were sending had 'Atlas Moving Company' and the exact logo of Atlas," Gilbert said.
Suter told the Deseret News people seeking a moving company sometimes enter their information on a website that generates leads for scam artists. He called the Internet "a cesspool of trademark infringement."
The suspects are identified as:

Zoher Awad, 26
Itzhak Taizi, 29
Juventino Ruiz-Vazquez, 27

They are all from San Jose, Calif., and were booked into the Utah County Jail for communications fraud. Their bail is set at $2,500.

• The mover doesn't offer or agree to an onsite inspection of your household goods and gives an estimate over the telephone or Internet — sight unseen. These estimates often sound too-good-to-be-true. They usually are.

Governments crack down on moving scams

Federal and state authorities are cracking down on online scam artists who pose as licensed movers and rip off consumers by jacking up prices, giving fake estimates and holding consumers' belongings hostage.

States including New Jersey, California , Nevada, and Illinois have conducted undercover operations this year, and Maryland approved legislation that keeps movers from charging more than 25% above an original estimate.

Unlicensed moving companies are significantly more likely to rip off consumers, says Linda Bauer Darr, president and CEO of the American Moving andStorage Association, a trade group of 3,200 professional movers.

"Our mission is to get these rogues off the road, that is the single most important thing we can do right now," Darr says. "The rogues in the industry are killing our business and killing consumers' faith in professional movers."

The Better Business Bureau received more than 8,900 complaints against both licensed and unlicensed movers in 2010 — a 5% increase over 2009, says spokeswoman Sheila Adkins. Until 2010 the BBB didn't specifically track complaints against those brokers, who serve as go-betweens between consumer and moving company. It logged 285 such complaints in 2010 and 111 so far this year, Adkins says.

In an interview with Mike the Mover, owner of Interstate Contracted Movers, "the growing concern is with unlicensed movers and online moving brokers... They are one creating the most problems". Recently, three California-based moving companies face civil penalties of at least $25,000 each after a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration enforcement sweep in March in nine major U.S. cities. Two of them were caught here in Las Vegas.

More job seekers are moving for new positions

More unemployed managers and executives are deciding to pack their bags and move for a new position, according to a report released this week by Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

During the first half of the year, about 9.4% of job seekers relocated for a job, up from 7.6% within the same window of time in 2010, according to the outplacement consultancy firm. That’s from a survey of about 3,000 job seekers; many of the respondents are managers and executives.

“The 9.4% relocation rate in the first half of 2011 is still low by historical standards, but the increase does indicate that job seekers are finally beginning to loosen the stakes that have kept them tethered to a specific region,” said John A. Challenger, chief executive of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, in a news release.

“Since there has been little improvement in the housing market in 2011, one might conclude that the increased relocation in the first half of the year is due to the fact that prolonged unemployment is compelling more job seekers to relocate, despite the challenges of selling a home in this market,” Challenger said.

“At some point, the job seeker may simply conclude that it is worth taking a loss on a home sale to get back on the payroll,” he said. It’s also possible that employers are becoming more willing to help employees relocate.

Before the recession it was more common for people move for a job, according to the report. About 16.1% of people who found jobs each quarter between the first quarter of 2005 and the third quarter of 2007 relocated for the position. But at that time, selling a house wasn’t nearly as difficult as it is in today’s climate.

BBB reports moving scams on rise

LAS VEGAS -- With the housing crisis in Nevada, a lot of people are on the move, and there are people trying to take advantage of that. Complaints are on the rise and the Better Business Bureau is warning about rogue movers.

The BBB says they investigated 200 moving company complaints this past year, double from the year before.

"We had a complaint just in the past week where the consumer lost their whole truck. It didn't show up, and the moving company didn't find it and the mover, because it was a rogue mover and they had just hired somebody, the guy quit halfway and just left the truck. They found it in Texas," said BBB CEO Robert Crockett.

Common signs of rogue movers include lack of a written estimate, demanding an up-front cash deposit and showing up in rental vans instead of marked vehicles.

The BBB launched a campaign against fraudulent moving companies. They are spotting many rogue moving companies coming from Los Angeles, stealing business from licensed local movers.

"A rogue mover will pop up with a name very similar to ours, give a horrible estimate that short sells what the wage should be. When the customer comes time for delivery, they jack up the price a few thousand dollars and hold your items hostage," said Mike The Mover with IC Moving.

All 38 Nevada moving companies are licensed by the Nevada Transportation Authority (intrastate license only). In addition, the Federal Transportation Department (interstate license)has online guidelines of what to expect from legitimate moving companies. That includes the pamphlet showing your customer rights companies are required to give you by law such as Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move and Ready To Move. Also, consumers may want to carry additional insurance. In many cases movers are only liable for 60 cents per pound. So read your contracts or talk to your mover before the moving truck gets loaded. When it comes purchasing moving insurance, there are three levels of insurance types: Limited liability, lump sum value and full value protection. But before you buy insurance, here are a few tips. Never buy moving insurance from a moving company... they are movers, not insurance agents. Check your homeowner's insurance. Some policies cover property in transit. Consider purchasing short-term insurance that covers the move if your property is very valuable. Remember, items in boxes not packed by the mover are not covered, unless the outside of the carton provides clear evidence that the entire box was damaged during the move. The mover is responsible for any electronic item(s) that do not function after the move only if there is clear evidence that the item was dropped or mishandled during the move. The customer has nine months after the move to file an initial claim against the mover. The mover is legally obligated to acknowledge any claim within 30 days and to resolve it or offer a settlement within 120 days. But the customer is legally responsible to pay for the move, even when claiming extensive damages. You have to go through the claims process to receive compensation for any damages. Welcome back to Reni's Cafe. As much as I hear it, I never hear it enough... "safety first" The guys in the office preach it. The pictures below were taken today at a loves truck Stop just outside of Van Texas. It was reported that the driver was sleeping while the truck was being loaded and did not know the exact contents. Turns out that there were several prohibited items loaded onto the truck (note the propane tank). While the exact cause has been yet to be determined, it reminds all of us in the industry "safety first'. US DOT has a list of chemicals that can not be shipped via household carrier for just this reason. The truck and its contents are a total loss. Our heart goes out to those families that just lost their possessions.

Welcome back to Reni's Cafe. The cat is out of the bag, but first I want to talk about the school project... I drove by Clark High School and saw several guys working that I didn't recognize, which means that they have hired several new people. I think its great that more and more people are working. Phase I & II move-out is almost complete, or should be complete by the end of the week. I keep asking for a schedule, but Shaggy told me that they were winging it... I can see a whole school being built on a wing... Anyways, I was told that there would be several off weeks between phases and that other things are in the works for the slow weeks.

Now back to the cat in the bag. First off, the cat is more like a dirty dirty rat... let me explain... There is a bogus moving scam website called http://movingscamlasvegas.org/. note: THIS SITE IS A TOTAL 100% SCAM!!! This website is owned or controlled by Move 4 Less and/or Sears Movers... The site is listed as owned by the same person that owns Move 4 Less, but the owner argues that the owner of Sears Movers is the true owner. Several weeks ago there were 5 fraudulent bad reviews about IC Movers on the site. There are still fraudulent bad reviews about several other companies posted on it. After Mike the Mover and Shaggy talked with the attorney (Tony M. May of Hansen Rasmussen LLC) (case # 8044-11), they decided to haul both companies, and all 4 owners into Clark County Court for corporate slander at $100K each and let the judge figure it all out... The next day the IC Movers name and logo was removed from the website, Now, no one will tell me any details except "the site is a scam... We are not in the middle of it anymore, and don't want to be". The point... be careful. Not everything is what it seems.

Welcome back to Reni's Cafe. Allot of secrete things going on in the office again, but you can bet that I'm going to let all the cats out of the bag. At first no one would tell me a thing, but 2 weeks latter and I now have the scoop. 1st, I thought is was all about the new van and trailer that was just purchased for apartment size moves. From a girl's point of view, I even thought they were cool. Now I'm finding out that I was the last to know about the purchase. The true news is that Mike the Mover and Shaggy secured the Clark High School move. The project is expected to last 2 years and creates several new positions with the company.... more people working always sounds good. So far 6 new people have been hired and several more are expected as the project winds up. This is a high profile project so it is also expected to open the doors to other large projects.... the guys are defiantly making a good name for the company. On the other side of the moving industry, summer is here. End of school, triple digit tempters and long hot days mean allot of people moving. I have been officially advised to leave my husband alone until school restarts... so much for going to Disneyland. With so many people moving in such a short time frame, I recommend booking early. Think ahead... get all your quotes, do your research, and plan your move as far in advance as possible, and if your ever in the neighborhood stop by to see what's cookin...

Welcome back to Reni's Cafe. We had an exciting weekend at the Orleans! After the event, I had a chance to corner Mike The Mover and D-Mac for an interview..."I have to admit... we saw this one coming. With hundreds of happy customers, we knew we were going to be nominated for the 2011 Golden Dolly Award." "We didn't expect to be the 1st moving company to take the award 2 years in a row", but when Mike The Mover was called onto the stage at the Orleans Hotel & Casino, Interstate Contracted Movers was named "Best Moving Company In Las Vegas" for 2011... 2nd year in a row! "I would like thank all our happy customers for giving this award to us. But I think our employees are the ones who really earned it, and I am just so happy to accept it for them... Thank you so very much." We received the 2010 Golden Dolly Award for exceptional customer service and customer satisfaction. The new goal is to do it again!

At the Q-Club, it was reported that Shaggy ran 10 perfect sets. It's not uncommon for him to win, but to have an undefeated evening is rare. Welcome back to Reni's Cafe. Sometimes clients email us and we repost the emails here. Thank you Brenda Chester for your kind words. Brenda wrote... My name is Brenda Chester and Interstate Contracted Movers moved me. When I found out that I had to move, I decided to move back to California to be closer to my grandkids. I called several moving companies and invited them to my town home to give me a price. Most of them took an extensive inventory list of my belongings, left me some papers to look at and emailed me an estimated price by the pound. Looking at the estimates, the difference between the highest weight and the lowest was 3500 pounds, packing material were not included, some of them had a fuel fee, and all of them seemed to have some kind of hidden fee so I thought making a decision would be difficult. That evening (5pm) Mike from Interstate Contracted Movers was my last appointment. He spent about an hour with me discussing my move. He told me all the little tricks, add ons and hidden fees that companies try to charge, how to get binding prices that can not change, and how to check out moving companies through US DOT to make sure I got a reputable mover. Then he went over the insurance options, packing suggestions, and other common sense items that I would have never thought of. I was very impressed but still wanted to check what he told me. Latter that night I saw on channel 13 news that Triple 7 Movers was investigated for price changing and overcharging a customer. The news mentioned ripoffreport.com as a place to find information on moving companies, so I looked for New Planet Moving, Oasis Moving and Storage, Move 4 Less, and Elite Moving... Wow the more I looked, the more I found. Even Bekins was on there.

The next day I met the buyers on my town home and they told me that they already signed a binding price contract with ICMovers and that their daughter moved to Denver with them several months ago and had a great move, so I asked for their number and she gave me a business card to Interstate Contracted Movers. I already had their card and remembered how well Mike explained everything.

Several days latter I decided to stop by ICMovers office to see what kind of office they had and get a feel for their business. I met Mike's Aunt Carol, his father and his wife Reni They have warm friendly office with pictures of their family everywhere. Mike explained that they are family owned and operated, and that he has several other family members that own moving companies in cities. It was nice that they all could work together so closely, but still have the space that is needed to have a good family. Mike also showed me all the paperwork, filled out everything and told me where to sign. I explained that I was not ready to sign just yet and to my surprise, he told me that I could take it with me... read through it tonight, if I don't like it to though it away (no harm done), if I like it to sign it and let him know. He even reserved my move date for me while I was deciding. That night I decided and signed the papers.

On move day, the guys were right on time, with no truck. One of the guys explained to me that the truck was running late and would be here soon, and they were going to start wrapping up everything and prepare it for shipping. By 11am the truck was there and by 1 pm it was almost loaded. The guys worked very hard and fast, with out damaging anything. I have to admit, all my prior aspirations were resolved and I was very impressed with the work. Everyone was wearing the same shirts, acted professional but friendly and made this a good experience for me. When the truck was loaded, Mike and some other guys showed up and looked at everything. At first thought, I knew he was going to go up on the price, but he never mentioned price. In stead, he thanked all the guys for doing a good job and told me that the truck would be in LA before noon the next day. Then he sent the truck and guys back to their office. He stayed and talked to me for a few minutes asking how the guys did and if any of the stuck out as exceptional. Then he asked me if my car was all packed up and ready to go or if he could help with my luggage. I was already ready, but I thought it was good of him to ask. Before leaving he told me to have a safe drive, and not to worry about the shipment as his guys would take excellent care of it.

The next morning at 10 am the truck arrived at my new home. I paid the guys as agreed and was relived that the price never went up. The guys unloaded allot faster then I thought, taking the time to set up the beds and put all my furniture where I wanted. They also put all the boxes in the correct rooms and took all the trash out to their truck. I called Mike once again to thank his for everything and to tell him that I was very pleased. I wanted to tip all the guys, but only part of the original crew was at the delivery end. Mike told me to give the tip to the driver and he would make sure that it got divided up equally. I have been in my new home for 3 weeks now and am still happy with everything. I am almost completely unpacked and have not found any damage or anything to complain about... they really did a great job. Next month I have to be back in Las Vegas for business and plan on stopping by the office to thank Mike and his family one last time. Can right off moving expenses with the IRS - Sometimes

AMERICANS HAVE ALWAYS been a restless bunch, which may be why the Internal Revenue Service can be pretty generous when it comes to letting you deduct work-related moving expenses. But that doesn't mean it makes it easy.

Pass or Fail

The best thing about writing off your moving expenses is that the deduction is taken "above the line," meaning you don't have to worry about all those itemized deduction phaseout rules that can quickly dash your hopes of a big tax refund. The worst thing is that it's hard to qualify.

To determine who's eligible, the IRS has set up two tests. Pass them and you can cash in; fail and you have to eat all the costs of your move. Keep in mind, the IRS lets you take this deduction only if you are moving because of a job. And it doesn't matter if it's a new job, the same job or your first job. (Recent college grads, take note.)

Your first challenge will be to pass the 50-mile test. That means the distance between your new primary job and your former home must be at least 50 miles greater than your old commute. So if you lived 10 miles from work and your new office is 45 miles from your old home, you lose. You can't deduct your moving expenses. If, on the other hand, your new office is 65 miles from your old home, then your new commute is 55 miles longer and you pass the first test.

The second test was designed to prove that you moved for work and not just for a change of scenery. It requires that you be employed full time in the general area of your new job location for at least 39 weeks during the 12 months after you make the move. This means you are allowed to switch jobs as often as you'd like after the move. And if your employer transfers you again or even lays you off, the IRS won't hold it against you and will waive the 39-week test.

The rules are slightly different (and more beneficial) if you own your own business, or if you have been out of the workforce or worked part time for a "substantial" period of time. (The IRS doesn't define "substantial.") If you're a sole proprietor or a partner, you can just transfer yourself (to Honolulu, perhaps) and deduct the cost, as long as you meet the 50-mile and 39-week tests as well as a third test that applies to self-employed people. This third test requires that you work full time in that area for at least 78 weeks during the 24 months after you move.

If you're just reentering the full-time workforce, you can claim the deduction even if you don't have a job when you move. But your new job and your former residence have to be at least 50 miles apart, and you must still pass the 39-week test.

If you're a married couple filing jointly, only one spouse needs to meet both the time and distance tests. And here's a case where a couple of miles can make a big difference come tax time. Say there's a couple in which the wife works for a company five miles from home and the husband is self-employed and works at home. If the wife is transferred or finds a new job at an office 40 miles away from home, she will either be stuck with a long commute or the couple will have a nondeductible move. But if they moved 50 or more miles from their current house, then they could claim the moving deduction because of the husband's self-employed status. The only requirement is that the husband meet the 39-week and 78-week rules.

This trick also works if one spouse is transferred and tries to put off the misery of moving by enduring the misery of commuting for a year or more. Under normal circumstances, he or she can deduct only moving expenses that occur within one year of the new job's start date, so the transferred spouse will lose out on the tax deduction. But the other spouse can save the day by taking a job at the new location or, if he or she is self-employed, by simply moving the business to the new location.

Welcome back to Reni's Cafe. Most people know that behind our little cafe is a private club called D-Mac's Shack. Its about a much of a man cave as you can get. Twice a year it's open to the public for a buy-in 9-ball tournament. 50% of the pot goes to the winner and 50% goes to charity. Last Sunday, while race fans were at the Sam's Town 300, was the big day. With the buy-in being $100 a head, nobody expected the turnout. As 68 pool sharks took their turn for the pot, D-Mac and the IC Movers crew were happy to announce that they raised $3,400.00 for the fight against breast cancer, but biggest surprise came at the end of the day when our very own Shaggy "I struggled all day to stay in the game" got back-to-back 9-balls on the break on the last set. "I swear I had my eyes close when I broke that last rack". I also asked Mike The Mover (who is known to be a sharp shooter on the table) how he got knocked out in the 4th round? "Today's not about me, it's about charity". Yes it is, so congratulations to Shaggy for the win, and the whole IC Movers crew for raising $3,400.00 for the fight against breast cancer.

Don't let this happen to you

Henderson, NV (KTNV) - Chances are you have moved once or twice in your life. So when one Henderson woman used a local company for her move, she thought she was quoted a fair price. But it all changed on moving day and she didn't understand how. So when You Ask, We Investigate. Action News reporter Drew Karedes went to talk to the moving company.
"They lowball you then they get you at the end when they have all of your furniture in the truck," said Sandra Linton.
Sandra's husband of 46 years had just passed away and she was battling cancer. So she was looking forward to moving closer to her family last fall. But says her move from Lake Havasu to Henderson was anything but pleasant.
"They shouldn't be allowed to conduct business in the way that they did," said Sandra.

Sandra says when all was said and done she paid more than $7,000 for a 140 mile move. She found Triple 7 Movers online and got an over the phone estimate of about $2,400.

"I said ok I'll go with you," said Sandra.

So Sandra put a deposit down and started packing. Triple 7 Movers showed up on a Sunday in October and started loading her boxes. She says after most of her stuff was in the truck, the foreman gave her a revised estimate of nearly $7,200.

"I asked him if he had checked the footage because I couldn't believe it was that much," said Sandra.

Sandra says she may have had a few more boxes than originally anticipated but she says the difference was shocking. With everything she owned on the truck, she says she had no other choice but to sign the papers and pay half the bill. Once she got to her new home in Henderson she said the foreman asked for more money.

"He wasn't going to unload it until he got the money," said Sandra.

So she paid the rest but not without complaining about the bill and even sending an email to Triple 7 Movers President. When she never heard back she emailed Action News. We headed straight for Triple 7 Movers' office for some answers.

The president wasn't there so we talked with the supervisor of Triple 7 Movers, Tom Dadon. We asked him about the final cost of the move versus the earlier estimate.

"We're talking about $4,800 do you agree that that is a big difference,"asked Action News reporter Drew Karedes.

"I do agree but do you also agree that if over the phone you tell me yeah I'm moving a bed, a couch, 10 boxes, and a tv I would give you a certain price. But if all the sudden I'm moving 100 boxes, 5 beds, 2 couches, and another dining room set, it's going to be substantially different," explained Tom.

Sandra was livid she wasn't told about the revised estimate until about 90 percent of her things were loaded in Arizona. But according to Tom, they did make her aware the price would be three times the amount than first quoted.

"You can see that she signed here that we told her what the new price and we also told her this in person prior to loading," said Tom.

On the paperwork there isn't a time stamp meaning it's Sandra's word against Triple 7 Movers. Sandra says if she was told the price prior to her stuff going in the truck, she wouldn't have used Triple 7 Movers.

"I was down right mad," said Sandra.

After the interview with us, we heard from Triple 7 Movers' lawyer. He wanted us to give the company's president the chance to talk on camera. We set up a time, but in the end only their lawyer talked with us.

"Do you think this individual case maybe raises some red flags about maybe there should be a time on there as far as when the document was signed so there is no gray area," asked Action News Reporter Drew Karedes.

"Well I suppose a time here would be beneficial," said Jason Barrus, Attorney for Triple 7 Movers.

Triple 7 Movers is certified with Nevada Transportation Authority. After some investigating we found something similar to Sandra's story on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's web site. Three complaints in 2010 and 3 so far this year against Triple 7 Movers of disputes between estimates and final charges.

"I don't know anything about the other incidents," explained Jason Barrus, Attorney for Triple 7 Movers.

"We have very good reviews online," said Tom.

That's right, they do on their own web site. But on Ripoff Report it's a different story. Customers talking about the company offering a low bid, then doing a bait and switch. Sandra says she hopes her experience is one no one will have to go through.

"They just shouldn't have charged me that much," said Sandra.

Sandra did finally sit down with the president of Triple 7 Movers last week.

Their lawyer emailed us saying Triple 7 Movers mailed Sandra a check for $611, the amount she paid for packing materials.

In addition to our interview with him, he did send us a statement. Click here to read it. Each party still has a different story about what happened. The lawyer in his statement says Sandra clarified during their meeting that she did know about the increased price before her boxes were loaded. But Linton is holding her ground saying she never said that.

If you are planning a move it is important to do your homework. Check to see if the mover is certified with the Nevada Transportation Authority on their web site. You can also check out their complaint history with the Department of Transportation.

Opportunity Village is Las Vegas’ favorite charity. They are a not-for-profit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities. They provide them with vocational training, employment and social recreation services that make their lives more productive and interesting. At the grand opening, we had the opportunity to meet the mayor, talk to several of their employees, and I even bought several items to show our support in their efforts. Mayor, Oscar Goodman even stopped for a quick photo op with Mike the Mover and me… please come down to the new store and show your support. Welcome back to Reni’s Café. This week has also been a busy week for the guys around the office. After much confusion and delays, they finally started the much anticipated Lennar Homes project. The guys have been working late into the night on most nights. The WA, CA, and CO trucks are all running on time, but I understand that there was a deck lights problem on one of the trucks which cost them some time and aggregation with DOT. The new web site is coming along slowly but surely, and everyone is patiently waiting to see what is will look like. There has also a photo shoot for the new ICM racing sponsorship. While all this is going on, Lee & Rachel are still getting married on Sunday, which means allot of last minuet planning, rehearsals, and just plain old chaos. I did get the privilege of being at the formal rehearsal, but was told not to post any per wedding pictures, but you know me… here is the best I could do… you will have to wait until next week to see the real ones.

Welcome back to Reni’s Café. Today was an exciting day in the ICM office…. and I missed most of it. I got the call about 3pm that there was something big going on and no one knew what it was, so I rushed right down to find Mike the Mover, D-Mac, Shaggy, Cory, Pops, and Aunt “D” in a closed room all tucked behind a computer. It took me about 20 minutes to talk my way in to the room to find out what in the world was going on… and now the big news… IC Movers is now the proud sponsor of B&B Racing Team. They are 1^st place in the World Rally Racing. The big news is going to be announced in the morning, but you got it first right here! The guys (all huddled around the computer) were designing a web page for the new ICM Racing sponsorship. I didn’t notice it at first, but the website format was different. Apparently the entire website is being redesigned… More big news that has not been announced yet… ops… I think I just let the cat out of the bag! The new website is set to go live sometime around the end of October. Apparently it is going to have 2 or 3 times the amount of information… all wrapped around the moving industry, and be more user friendly. Finally, I learned that they started a new dedicated truck program where pick-up and delivery dates are guaranteed or 25% off the balance due. Wow… I stay out of the office for a week and all kinds of new things are happening. I don’t even want to say what I had to promise to get these 3 pictures .

Moving Long Distance

The only thing worse than moving is moving a long distance. We are not talking about moving to another country, but across your own country. It may take less paperwork, but it can be just as troublesome and headache inducing as an international move. When you are moving a long distance, there are several things you have to prepare for, with one of the most important being the
trip itself.

There are two options when moving long distance. You can hire a moving company, or you can get your moving services from a rental van company that will be able to rent you a van to use. If you drive in your own vehicle, you need to prepare to have all your items of importance in the car with you. These include your papers for the new place, identification, toys for the kids, toiletries and more. You don’t want to get to the hotel on the night of the move to find you left your toothpaste and other items in the moving van, which at that moment is on its way to the new house. The toys need to be in the vehicle because if you have kids, you don’t want to listen to them telling you that they are bored, when you could have had their toys in the back seat to keep them busy.

Before you ever load anything into the moving truck, or have it loaded into the van by house movers, you should take an inventory of everything and take lots of pictures. You have to make sure that nothing is left behind because there is very little chance you will ever see it again. You should ensure you are able to know where everything is before it gets into the moving van so that you know that everything will be on its way when the house movers leave. This is very important because you need to have the peace of mind knowing that the items you are having transported by moving companies are all your items, and not just some. You should be able to think calmly that everything has been loaded and nothing has been left behind by accident.

Lastly, you need to find a moving company that will provide the moving service at a competitive rate, and generally the best rate is not by the pound. It is a flat rate (binding price that will not change). Moving a long distance is very stressful when it is you moving everything, and very expensive when it is someone else moving everything. At least this is the average case. Planning an International Move

Some people move only a few blocks, others moving across the city, some even move across the country. Those are all difficult moves, but there are few moves as difficult as an international move. International moves take the stress of a typical move and ramp it up several degrees.

First, when you are planning an international move, the same preplanning tasks you would take in a domestic move are used. However, you should make special considerations for the added time it will take to do the move, the paperwork you will need and the regulations that exist in foreign countries.

You will need to find someone who has worldwide capabilities and can arrange for the move from the United States to another country. This is not as simple as driving a U-Haul, unless you go from the United States to Canada, because you can’t drive over the ocean, so you need moving service companies and moving services that can do the job right for you.

There are items you should not move, and these include many household goods like plants, foods and flammables. On top of this, you should learn about anything that may be boycotted in certain countries. These could be manufactures, materials, liquor, firearms and ammunition. You should always consult the destination country consular before you start thinking of moving boycotted items through customs.

If you are transporting your car, it may make a better idea to sell the car because the custom duty on importation of automobiles varies by country, but it is usually extremely high. You could buy another car in your new location from the money you made on the sale of your previous car.

Pets are not always allowed in some countries and are prohibited in others so ensure you know exactly what is allowed in your destination country. You may require an entry permit, health and rabies certificates, or even a quarantine period up to six months or longer at your own expense.

There are several documents that should be completed to avoid any complications at your destination, and you should have the following items available including your passport, certificate of registration, US Export Forms, Visa, Residence and Work Permits, Medical and Immunization Certificates, International Driving Permits and Marriage Certificates.

Most international movers will also require that you make a payment at the completion of the load, and once the payment is received, the shipment will be released and sent to the port of origin. If you do not make payment, your goods will sit at the port and collect storage costs that you will have to pay. You should always get a quote on what everything is going to cost, and you should understand that rates change constantly with international quotes being good for 30 days.

Moving overseas or to another country is not always easy, but as long as you know what to expect and what to have, you can get the move done and over with without any real headaches or problems.

How to Move Efficiently

1) First, decide if you can afford to hire movers or not. If you decide to use professional movers then you wont need to follow most of the steps in this article. But I've seen a lot of people move themselves and done it myself a few times.

2) Whether you use professional movers or not, get as many moving boxes as you can. You can never have too many of these. The place where you rent the rental truck will be happy to sell you three or a thousand. Also be sure to get some kind of padding to put between unpackaged furniture or appliances in the truck. The truck rental place can also lend you these or you can use old comforters.
3) Contact as many of your friends as possible well in advance if you wont be using professional help. This seems like a no brainer but if you wait until the week you are moving your friends might have other plans. Not to mention they will need all the strength and stamina they can get so you want to be sure they aren't running the Boston Marathon the day before your move.

4) When renting the truck, always anticipate needing it longer than what you would initially plan on. In every in-state move I've been involved in someone is always scrambling to get in one last trip before the truck is due back. In addition to this, if you will be making multiple trips between the two locations, try to move the biggest items first. This will save the smaller items for when your strength is almost gone. Also, if you do need to bring the truck back before the moving is done then hopefully you will just be left with smaller items you can fit in your friends' cars.

5) Get access to a dolly. Your Aunt Dolly may be of some help but a moving dolly will be the best. Your lower back will thank you for it the following week.

6) Measure doorways and big items before you start moving things. The little feet on Sofas and Refrigerator doors are notorious for just barely preventing you from reaching your goal. Some of your doorways may be bigger than others and knowing which one to use ahead of time will save you a lot of grief. One doorway may be 10 feet closer to the driveway than another one but if it takes you an extra 20 minutes to get the refrigerator door off then you might be better off taking the longer walk.

7) Have a toolbox available at both locations. You never know when you may still need to dismantle things to fit them through doorways or stairwells. For example, trying to get a complete sleeper sofa up a winding staircase can be a challenge. Once you remove the inner mattress it is much lighter and hollow.

8) Use gloves or have bandages and band aids accessible. A moving day isn't complete until someone slices their finger open.

9) Finally, if there will be more than 3 vehicles in your moving party then have cell phones on in all vehicles (hands free off course) or people need GPS and the location of where you are moving to. You wont have a hearse leading the pack so other drivers probably wont know you are all following each other. This is a lot easier than having to pull a 20 foot rental truck off to the side of the road while you wait for half your group to catch up because they got stuck at a light.

I moved from Las Vegas to Arroyo Grande, CA, and it was very important that my belongings arrive on time as I have a child with special needs. While researching moving companies, I noticed that several movers guaranteed pick-up & delivery dates but only Interstate Contracted Movers put a $ amount on it. In writing was 25% off if it was not delivered on time, so I went with them. I gave them with just 3 day’s notice that I chose them, and made sure that the truck would still be there within 2 days, and everything went smoothly. The service was friendly and professional. I really couldn’t have asked for more! They packed our stuff in 1 day, and delivered it the next… even helping unpack and set up my son’s medical bed and supplies. I thought for sure that there would be some broken things when they arrived at the new place, however, even our most fragile items arrived safe and sound. Moving Insurance

Welcome back to Reni’s Café. Daisy Mays sent a letter asking why her mover would only insure at $0.60 per pound per article. Hopefully this will explain …

By federal law, all moving companies offer free insurance which only covers $0.60 per pound per article. This means that a 48" Flat Screen Plasma HDTV which weighs about 50 lbs is covered at a maximum payoff of $30.00. Details like age and replacement cost do not enter the formula. Because of this, it is always recommended that you purchase additional insurance to protect yourself and your belongings. Another way to protect yourself and your belonging is to check with your home-owners or renters insurance policy to see if the move is already covered. If it is not, see if they will write you an umbrella policy to cover the move. Other options are buying direct from an insurance company that specializes in moving insurance rather then buying from a moving company who is most likely a middleman. Nevada Local Moving Laws

Welcome back to Reni’s Café & Interstate Contracted Movers. Today I received a letter asking why we could not supply a truck for local moves in Las Vegas, so I decided to post a blurb about Nevada moving laws. Hope you find this information useful.

In Nevada all moving companies are regulated by the Nevada Transportation Authority (NTA) and are required to have a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) numbers (NAC 706 and NRS 706) for local moves, in addition to CFR Title 49. The NTA puts business owners through an extensive qualification procedure. Employees must be drug tested, have a DOT health certificate and pass a detailed background check. The company must maintain workman’s comp, liability, & cargo insurance. They are also checked regularly by the NTA to make sure they are following strict guidelines. While IC Movers does comply with all state and federal laws… DOT truck inspections, employee drug testing, etc. CPCN numbers are very expensive and time consuming to obtain. This, plus the fact that it is cheaper you to rent the truck and hire a professional company to do all the work, is why they can not supply the truck for local moves in Las Vegas.

NEVADA HOUSEHOLD GOODS MOVING TIPS

* Obtain a list of certificated local movers from the NTA by calling them in Las Vegas (702) 486-3303 or Reno (775) 688-2800, or visit them online at http://nta.nv.gov/ .
* Get two or more estimates based upon a physical inventory of your possessions. You are entitled to a written, binding estimate. The charges for the moving service may not exceed the amount in the estimate, unless you, the customer, request services in addition to those included in the written estimate and agree to pay the additional charges.
* Have the mover explain the various insurance options. You may need to purchase extra insurance to obtain full replacement value of lost or damaged goods.
* Decide whether you or the mover will pack your goods. Make sure your moving contract outlines what services the mover will perform and what work you will do yourself.
* Make sure there are no surprises at your destination that may prevent the quick unloading of your goods. For example, let the mover know ahead of time whether they will be moving items into a home with stairs to climb.
* Discuss when and how payment will be made. Note payment arrangements on the contract.
* When goods are loaded, keep track of them on an inventory sheet. Check items again as they come off the truck. Note any obvious missing or damaged goods before the movers leave.
* If a dispute arises, bring it to the attention of the company’s supervisor, or the NTA.
* If possible, visit the mover’s office beforehand to check equipment and warehouse conditions.

The Valley High School Project

This moving review was just posted on Yellowbook and sent to me via email, so I had to share it. It is titled "I HATE MOVING" and was posted by Chris Felquay... Thanks Chris for your words... "I filled out an online moving form and got 100+ phone calls in 2 days... I had to start screening my calls. About a week latter, I accidently answered the phone thinking it was a friend and got Mike the Mover from Interstate Contracted Movers. Feeling awkward, I talked to him for about 5 minutes and agreed to him sending me an email. He sent me allot of useful information, links and good prices, so I decided to check out his company. 9 days latter, I still had not hear from him (true to his word that he wouldn't call me again) so I called him for an in home estimate. The price was still right. He was clean cut, polite, and very knowledgeable... unlike several others that I invited to my house, so I hired him. Welcome back to Reni’s Café. The Valley High School job is about ½ complete, and so far so good. We are happy to report that there has not been any problems. The project will be complete around the end of August. We have had some problems with the long distance truckers getting out on time… heavy weather, a broken semi, and a driver health problem was a setback. Currently, all the shipment are on there way or have been delivered and we are on top of everything. For all our racing fans, BB racing team has agreed to put our logo on there racecar. We will also be adding there logo to out trucks. It feels good to be part of a winning team! I will post pictures on the blog as soon as D-Mac gets them to be. In the mean time, stop by and see what’s for dinner. We hope to see you soon.

Congradulations on the Valley High School project

Welcome back to Reni’s Café. As most of you have heard (or not) I C Movers were awarded the contract from McCarthy to move Valley High School again. The project started on the 10th and word has it that they are already ahead of schedule… “the teachers and staff can not pack fast enough” says an inside source. The project is going to last until the end of August and will employ 30 – 33 men per day at its peak.

Mike The Mover, D-Mac and Shaggy have also been busy with other large projects… moving Power Realty And Development is going on as I type and Cruise Planners project went off with out a hitch. It should be wrapping up within the next two weeks. I also heard that a large project could be started with Lennar Homes in Nevada and California.

In the office, it has been a mad house. Shaggy started calling Mike The Mover "yo yo" for his constant running from work station to work station securing the new network (which has kept him there until 2:30am on several occasions). Apparently several patches had to be made to correct an outbound email – client server problem between ICM, Century Link, and Ipower. The patches will have a permanent fix Monday when all the IT geniuses will be there. The new addition is up and running, and more support staff has been added… So, we would like to give a warm welcome to Tabitha, the new sales manager. “Tabitha, Welcome to The ICM family”! I will see if I can sneak a picture of her seeing that I’m the trigger happy one of the bunch. Employee of the month goes to Tyler Moir for most improvements… Keep up the good work Tyler!!!

In the kitchen, Rachel has been perfecting her chicken dinner and from D-Mac’s mouth to my ears, “it’s the shit” Tonight we are serving Zelevi Sarmi, Shopska Salad, and Baklava, so grab your taste buds and I’ll see you in the kitchen.

28th annual Laughlin River Run

Live from Reni’s Café. Fun, fun, fun… The 28th annual Laughlin River Run was the only MUST SEE event this weekend for the Tri-state area. We went Saturday to check out the event, and as you already know, D-Mac took lots of photos. We saw a wedding, nude women, drunken bikers, great food, and lots and lots of bikes. Welcome back to Reni’s Café. As you all know from time to time I post customer reviews. Today I would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Nick for his time and words… “I May, 2010 “Mike The Mover” moved me from Las Vegas to New York. I got 6 quotes and went with Interstate Contracted Movers because Mike & Lee sounded like they new more about the moving industry then any of the other companies. They also spent more time with me getting me organized in packing so the move would be a smooth transition for my family & myself. Their binding price did not go up (no hidden fees), my belongings arrived on time, and there was no damage or missing items. Their customer service is also the BEST! If you are moving anywhere, they came highly recommended from a friend and now I too am recommending them. Dr. Nick Kirac, Rochester NY”
On the fun side, this weekend is the Yuma Prison Run, and D-Mac has volunteered to drive the chase truck. Hopefully none of the bikes will break down, and the chase truck will not be needed, but it is better to have and not need, then need and not have. Personally, I think it is wonderful of him to volunteer on such a time consuming task. The run last from Friday morning to Sunday night.

9-ball at the Cue Club

Live from Reni’s Café. As you all know every Tuesday night is 9-ball league at the Cue Club. Usually the guys have an average night… like any sport, you win some and you loose some. Last night, they were on fire so congratulations from all of us at Reni’s Café to all the guys at Interstate Contracted Movers for finishing out the night in 1st place. Personally, I think it was the new shirts. I think the team plays better when they look like a team. Black with purple and lime green trim, 15 guys deep. The pool hall was flooded with I C Movers shirts. Although everyone did a great job, the lead players were The Big Guy, Shaggy, and D-Mac. After the matches, Claxton, Pops, Quez and Jonny Boy stopped by the café for drinks and to boast about the winning shot. Apparently D-Mac broke and came up dry. His opponent had a failed run-out leaving only the 9-ball and on the pocket. I’m told that D-Mac walked around the table several time talking to himself… “no pressure, make it we win, miss it we loose… no pressure” I tried to call D-Mac for a comment but had to leave a massage. I let you know if he gets back to me.

Live from Reni’s Café. I just wanted to pop in and say hi…”hi”. This weekend was a little slower then normal. I did have some time to gang out with D-Mac and watch him play. After all the hard work these guys do, it’s nice to see the playing and wearing smiles. The big news is that Easter is coming up and that Shaggy is putting together the ICM Easter dinner for all employees and their family. I was asked to make a brisket and to expect 40 to 50 people. There will be plenty of extra food for you if you would like to come too… hope to see you there! Here are some pics that were taken over the weekend.

Live from Reni’s Café. Welcome back to the café. We’ve always said that you never know what the guys at Interstate Contracted Movers are up to. One of the newest members to the ICM team is Michael Dunn. We always know that Michael loved his skateboard as he drags it around with him everywhere, but when it was discovered that he does competition, all the guys had to go and show their support. With 20+ supporters (all wearing ICM logo) screaming his name, it was apparent that he had the most support there, and something must of worked as he had the best run in the half pipe of the day.

That night the crew showed up to celebrate and brag about their victory. Dinner was done Italian style and was a great success (measured by the amount to take-home). It was nice to see them all at the café at the same time. Below is a photo of the table that D-Mac and Shaggy sat at. The arms on the right belong to Pops (wouldn’t you know they would miss his face) I have at least 30 pics of him and none of them show his face. Oh ya, that’s me center stage with Imitations. It’s been a long time since those days that I danced on stage with the Go Go Girls… now that brings back memories.

Live from Reni’s Café. In this corner weighing 190 is the great upcoming fighter Jonathan Gomez-Porres. Jonathan has been with Interstate Contracted Movers since the start and yesterday he announced that he is leaving the family for bigger and better things. Apparently hanging out poolside at Planet Hollywood is more exciting then bench pressing sofas and refrigerators. Today I we would like to send our harts out to him and wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors. Hopefully he will be one of the next great contenders. In the mean time, we will miss him. Live from Reni’s Café! Late last night I was cleaning up the kitchen when I heard the news. GIJoey is coming in from Denver. He and his family should be sometime Sunday and is staying for a week. Does this mean that the Denver office is a go? Or is it just a face-to-face so corporate (at both ends) can put faces to names. Either way, a trader in Denver sent me what is turning out to be a real rare pic… GIJoey out of uniform. If run into him in the café, introduce yourself. I’m sure he’ll be hanging out with D-Mac or Pops.

Live from Reni’s Café. As some of you know I was recently handed over the job of hosting the blog. Looking over all of the back posting, I noticed that introductions were never made, so I just thought it would be nice to give out some official introductions.

On top from left to right is Carlo, JR, Pops (we can never seen to get a picture of his face), Claxton, and nealing down is Jonny Boy. On the bottom is D-Mac himself balancing an empty box. They were seeing who could balance it the longest and the record is 27 minutes and 42 seconds held by the Big Guy. I'll dig through my photos and post one of him latter.

And this is me, the one and only Reni of Reni's Cafe. The bike is an all origional (except for the 4k custom paint) 1982 KZ 550 LTD with only 18k miles on it. I take it out from time to time when the weather is nice. The pic below me is D-Mack (L) and Shaggy (R). The pic was taken in Oatmen, AZ on an Ironcrossmen bike run.

Live from Reni's Café. I just got a fabulous email from D-Mac. He would like to send out a special thanks to Balinda Bannisted and all the guys that helped Belinda move to Tarpon Springs FL. Blinda was very pleased with her moved and wrote…” I am always on a tight budget so I contacted 9 moving companies and they all seemed like good companies. All of them basically told me the same thing... read the reviews, call the BBB, we're a member of something or another... The last interview was with Mike of Interstate Contracted Movers and he was different. He told me not to believe anything anyone told me... find out the truth for yourself. Get the US DOT number on every moving company and call the feds. Ask how many consumer complaints and federal violations each company had on them and then decide who was a good company, so I did and was I ever surprised. Most of them had several issues with DOT. Two of them had over 20. Only one was squeaky clean. Remembering back, it was the company that some of the others badmouthed. Going through all the quotes again, I noticed that the price Mike gave me was the 2nd lowest and the lowest was one of the worst rated by DOT, so my decision was final. I called mike with Interstate Contracted Movers. On move day, still being skeptical, I read every paper before signing, watched everything the movers did, and asked every question I could think of, to the point that I think I was being a pain, but the moving crew stayed well mannered and kept working. At the delivery end was the same crew. They unloaded so fast, putting everything in place, assembling the bed, table and entertainment center. They even hooked up my washer and dryer, and the biggest shock of all was that the price never changed. This turned out to be the best move that I could ever hope and pray for. I would like to thank Mike the Mover, Lee from sales, JR and his crew, the driver that I did not catch his name and anyone else that had a part in my move. I would also like tell anyone considering hiring a moving company... call the US DOT and check all the companies and you will be surprised how many companies get away with screwing their clients. When you find one that is clean, let them do you move and you will be as happy as I am. I never thought I would recommend a moving company to anyone, but Interstate Contracted Movers has my vote. Live from Reni's Café. We want to give a special thanks to Steve and the guys at H & L Promotions on the fabulous job they did not the new shirts. Steve stopped by this afternoon and passed them out to the I C Movers crew and whoever else was around. The bulk of them came in black with purple & lime green lettering, although Pops got several in a variety of colors. Jr & D-Mac immediately put one on and wore it for the rest of the day. The crew even stopped long enough to strike a pose or two. For those of you that are going to stop by for dinner, Lee’s mouth watering ribs will be smoking tonight… Hope to see you there!

Over the last few days we have all been hanging out at our usual spot… Reni’s Café, just talking about all the upcoming moves and doing what we do. Yesterday it was suggested that Reni take over the blog and host our upcoming video parties at the café… you can thank Pops for that. It is no secret that the IC Movers owners have been looking at Denver for their newest office. In an interview at the Super Bowl, Mike the Mover stated “The mile high city has always played an important part in our business model”. It is also common knowledge that we send a truck there several times per month. From dispatch, “The economy in Denver is slow, but it is a good midway city. New Shirts Are On The Way

It all started when we put the shirt order up for bids. Steve, from H & L Promotions, felt bad about standing up our appointment and brought us a Bennie Cap with an IC Movers logo that he made up as a good will gesture. Apparently it worked because when Jr saw it he called “dibs” on it. He took it to a friend and had a similar design airbrushed onto a t-shirt. The next day, we run wild on art program and redesigned the logo. After everyone liked it, we decided to use it on the back of the new shirts. Like everyone else, I read all the bad things about the moving industry, but had to pick a company to move me to Iowa. After visiting the offices of 4 companies, I chose Interstate Contracted Movers. They made me feel at ease and my move from Nevada to Iowa was great. The owner was nice and gave me lots of advice showing me information about the industry that the other 3 didn’t. On move day the drivers were very prompt and courteous. Usually after a move, I have spent precious time digging through boxes and furniture just to locate an item that is needed right then. But the movers at IC Movers packed everything by labeling all the boxes so that everything was easy to find after! At the delivery end, they put all the boxes in the rooms by labels, and it worked great. I usually do not leave reviews, but these guys did a great gob for us and deserve a big thank you. As most of you know that in the past we have been attacked by our competitors, and now they are at it again. Last month they sprayed paint all over one of the trucks, before that they stole our brand new banners, and now they are online posting bad reviews against us. Unfortunately, this is a cut thought business filled with liars and scum. I even think I know what company is behind it... wont say a name, but I once worked for them and it was their common practice to post bad reviews about other companies. Hopefully they will grow up and stop acting like children… now I think I am wishing too much.

Snowmen grow as snow falls in Las Vegas

What crazy weather are we having in the city on sin? Last night enough snow fell in parts of Summerlin and Mountain's Edge to stick to the ground to build a snowman and to provide ammunition for war. Snow fell on elevations of 4000 ft. The Charleston lodge (around 7500 ft) was expected to get 2 ft of snow, and 2 – 4 ft was expected at the ski resort. NHP closed several roads, including Blue Diamond, backing up traffic for several hours, then to only open them to 4x4 – snow tires – or chains… again, what crazy weather are we having in the city on sin? For all our customers expecting pick-ups & deliveries, we are happy to report that the trucks are rolling and we are on schedule… in what has turned out to be a Las Vegas winter wonder land. http://www.icmovers.com/

More rain, snow headed into Southern Nevada

The latest wave of storms and showers has its way to Las Vegas, causing the traffic to back up as streets flood. The National Weather Service has issue a flood watch for most of Clark County and a winter storm warning for the mountains surrounding Las Vegas. Most of our moving jobs have been canceled or postponed with the exception of the San Diego run. The San Diego truck left Las Vegas around 3am last night, has already delivered its load, picked up the shipment coming to Las Vegas, and is already on its way back. That shipment will be delivered on time tomorrow (Friday). We also have several pick-ups scheduled for Friday and do not foresee problems or delays as long as weather permits. The phoenix/Dallas truck is now running 24 to 36 hrs behind do to the rain. All other shipments are on schedule… so far, so good! When It Rains In Vegas

A winter storm drenched the Las Vegas valley on Tuesday closing roads and turning streets into streams. The sheets of water were, at times, strong enough to form white caps, and the National Weather Service issued a flood advisory. The local News crews spotted flooding on several valley roads. Authorities shut down parts of Boulder Highway. Drainage systems around the valley flowed with rushing water. Due to the rain, most of our jobs were canceled and we had to send everyone home. We did however get 3 trucks out. The semi was loaded and is not on its way to the northeast (thanks Dinko), Lee and his crew got the San Diago truck loaded & will be leaving Vegas tonight for an early morning delivery, and Mike and his crew loaded the West Hollywood truck & should be delivering it now. Seeing it is currently raining in the LA area, we wish to send that crew lots of love... its not fun working in the rain... hang in there guys! Canceled until the weather permits is the Denver run. Last time I looked at the Doppler, the pass was getting hammered and snow chains were required... Brrrr! Hopefully the Denver Truck will go out by the weekend. http://www.icmovers.com/

"We were referred to Interstate Contracted Movers by a friend of ours who used them when he moved to Florida to retire, and they were great. When Lenny the estimator arrived he explained what to expect, how to pack, all about insurance, and how to save money… more then any of the other companies. On the morning of the move, they were so organized, I couldn’t believe it. One of the guys loaded my SUV for me. Everything else went into the moving truck with ease. I never thought it would fit. Once the truck was loaded I followed it to their office and I met Mike (the owner) and Lee (the driver). Everyone was so nice. As soon as we were done with all the paperwork, Lee explained that the truck would be in Dallas by noon the next day where he was going to a quick drop-off and pick-up before continuing on to Jacksonville, and that he would see me there in 4 days. During those 4 days, I called him everyday to make sure that he was on schedule. He was always so polite explaining where he was and how long it would take him to do everything. On the morning of the 4th day, Lee called me at 8am and explained the he arrived several hours earlier then expected and would like to know what time he could start unloading. Agreeing to meet him at 9, and wondering how he was going to unload everything by himself, I arrived 10 minutes early to find an army of guys waiting on me. During the unload, I realized that everything was being put in the correct place according to the map Lee and I drew up, so I decided that they didn’t really need me in the way anymore and left. I went to the ATM and a pizza shop to buy lunch for the guys. When I got back, and to my surprise, the truck was unloaded and half the guys were gone. After the remaining guys ate, they moved some furniture around for me and packed up their gear and left. Now has been 3 weeks and I am almost finished unpacking. They kept me so organized that everything was a breeze. I am so happy that my move is over and I hope to never do this again, but if I ever have to, I would want the same guys. I used Interstate Contracted Movers from Las Vegas to Springfield, NJ. This letter is to inform you of how happy I am with your company's services. My only previous experience with a professional mover was a nightmare. The truck was 7 hours late in the pickup and my belongings arrived at my new address 12 days later then promised. Since that experience, I have always rented a truck and moved myself. This year, with a new wife, child, and additional belongings, I decided to give the professional movers one more chance. I spoke to a few movers, but none were able to make me feel comfortable. Eventually, I contacted Interstate Contracted Movers, via their web-site. Mike called me the next day and he instinctively recognized my needs and, without using a sales pitch, had me sold. The next day, he came to our home and went over everything. We had allot of questions and kept him there for well over an hour. Mike was pleasant and answered all our question. He even made several suggestions on how we could save money on the move. Two days latter I dropped off my deposit, again, Mike presented such confidence in their services that I was completely relived of my apprehension about the move. The move itself went without incident. Jr and his crew called before they came, arrived on time, worked without pause and delivered everything to my new home less than a week in perfect condition. New Years Party

The Ironcrossmen Ney Years party was a blast! Reni and I got there about 8pm, ate lots of good food, shot a dozen games of pool (I lost about ½ of them), and went home around 11pm… yes, we were party poopers. Reni and I had to get up early the next morning for work, and neither of us wanted to be out driving after midnight. As it was, we saw 2 accidents on the way home, and LVMPD was out everywhere. Not that I was worried about getting pulled over, as all I drank was 2 dry cokes… I just don’t need the hassle. Being home by 11 meant that we spent the New Years in bed, me watching a movie and Reni sleeping (I woke her up at midnight to wish her a Happy New Year!!!). How are you spending New Years? Typically, the wife and I just stay home. Not that I’m some old party pooper, but Vegas – “The Strip” – major holiday – 4 hours to get your car out of the parking gauge, and way too many drunks on the road has never excited me. Besides, we have a view and can watch the fireworks from home. Now that I just sound boring, we were given an invite to the 1st IronCrossMen New Years party. Good thing its off the strip, and if its anything like the rest of their parties, it will be a good one… I’ll have to let you know. The Holiday Party

The holiday party went off without a hitch. It started at 5:00pm and ended at 4:00am. About 35 people attended (family, friends, and employees… and employee’s families) and it was a blast. Everyone brought a dish and a present for a 3-5 yr old. The kids were adorable! The next gathering most likely will be July 4th. I can’t wait! I was moving from Henderson, NV to West Lafayette, IN for a new job and needed to find a good, inexpensive and quick solution that would be easier than renting a U-haul. I was leaving Nevada on Tuesday and needed to be packed up by Monday night. I also required that all of my belongings get to Lafayette no later than Friday. I called 5 different moving companies, who all told me it would be impossible to do but offered to move it by the week after. I had talked to Mike at Interstate Contracted Movers about the move and they were the only company who said they would be able to do it. They said they specialized in these types of moves and that they have trucks going that way several times per week. I had my doubts, but come Monday morning, the plan was in motion. I signed a contract that stated the shipment would arrive on Friday. The movers showed up as planned and packed and loaded everything for me, all I had to do was let them in the house and they did all the work. Throughout the week, I constantly called IC Movers to check on the status of my shipment. They were always willing to help out and were able to give me the status of my shipment and where it currently was in the US. Come Friday, after a few phone calls, Mike arranged to have the shipment delivered to my new apartment building in Lafayette. Again, they were right on time! All my belongings were exactly as they had packed them and nothing was broken. The whole experience was amazingly simple and worked surprisingly well. When considering the Time and effort I would have had to put into this move by using a U-haul, This was a much better option and I’m glad it worked out. I highly recommend Interstate Contracted Movers based on my experience with them.

We are amazingly busy for this time of year

With only 10 more days before Christmas and all the people out shopping and visiting their loved ones, it is surprising and amazing at just how busy we are. As we continue to offer better prices to more and more cities, it seems that even in the slow season, we are busy. Going to LA

As you know Reni and I sometimes go out of our way to help others in need, so I will be out of the office tomorrow (12/10/09) as I am going to the Bulgarian Consulates office in Las Angeles to help an associate work out some papers problems... please wish us luck. Toys For Tots Bike Run

Sunday morning Reni & I got up early and fired up the Harley for the 30th annual IronCrossmen Toy Run. It was a brisk 43 degrees outside. We got all our leather gear on and one great big bag of Bennie Babies to donate to the kids. The ride was a great success as they collected allot of toys. Reni and I sold 50/50 tickets to raise money for the children and latter helped pass out plates for the food line and kept score for the bike games. This coming weekend we will hopefully join the IronCrossmen again to wrap all the toys and distribute then to all the good little boys and girls that need Christmas help. It feels really good to be able to lend a helping hand… you should come join us on our next bike run! www.icmovers.com

Back In Vegas

The Denver trip went well and was on time. Other then work, we took some time and went to Estes Pare to watch a Christmas parade. Then we visited the Rocky Mountain National Park. Bear Lake was frozen over, so I walked on water. The temp was COOOLD and it was slightly windy, but the views were amazing. On the way back to Vegas, we stopped at Zion National Park for about 3 hours and did the river walk. If you want to go, now is the time to do it. Detroit & Denver Truck.

The Detroit is on its way. We are sorry for the delay. The truck is still broken down, but a new tractor was leased and sent. It will be there Thursday - Saturday and will be heading back to Vegas. We had a good weekend. Reni & I went the Red Rider’s bike run to support the club in raising funds and can goods for the needy during this holiday season. It is good to get out and help people that are less fortunate then you and I. I have to admit, we had fun. The ride was about 160 miles and had nice dinner at the end. The next big bike run will be the Ironcrossmen toy run on Dec 6th to collect toys for all the good little boys & girls who otherwise might not have a Christmas.
